What we found during our trip to Marrakesh in 2023, is that Morocco is a country that is a beautiful blend of African, Arab and French cultures (as it was a French colony for some time). The markets were filled with exotic smells from local cuisine, the roadsides had sellers selling oranges, and somewhere in the depths of the Agafay dessert, we rested in our private oasis - a 8 bedroom villa, where we captured an elopement of C + N. Due to the unique culture, and a huge variety in what Morocco has to offer, an intimate wedding or an elopement can be relaxed and quiet, whilst also luxurious and modern. Legalities for Getting Married in Morocco
Getting married in Morocco as a non-national can be easy or a bit more of a process, depending on your nationality. Non-nationals should seek information from their embassy or consulate, as well as Moroccan authorities for the most up to date advice, however we will summarise the key learning points in this blog post.
There is some good news for couples from the US specifically – in some states, you can request permission from your county clerk to sign your wedding licence abroad. If they agree, you will be able to legally marry without the hassle of a Moroccan wedding ceremony. The following documents are required for a legal ceremony in Morocco:
An Affidavit of Nationality and Marital Eligibility from the US Consulate General in Casablanca.
Notarized copies of your passport at the US Consulate General in Casablanca.
Your birth certificate, either original or certified copy.
Proof of employment or other source of income in your home country.
A written declaration indicating your desire to marry in Morocco.
Males must provide a notarized statement of religious denomination or a certified copy of a conversion document to Islam.
A doctor's certificate of good health from Morocco.
A police record from your home country.

There are so many incredible venues to choose from in Morroco – you are honestly spoilt for choice and even we find it hard to narrow just a few down. Here are some of our top picks that we have found for weddings of various sizes:
Kasbah Bab Ourika
Kasbah Bab Ourika is our top pick not only due to it’s stunning location, and convenience for weddings, but also due to it’s environmental-forward approach. The clay building is located in the Atlas Mountains and is one of Morocco's most eco-friendly buildings with epic views of Ourika Valley. The property overlooks the river, and out at fields and grooves of olives, oranges, and lemons, with snowy mountain peaks in the distance (depending on the season). The scenery is truly breathtaking for sunset ceremonies.
The venue includes a variety of accommodation for your wedding guests, from bedrooms to private villas (reserved for you, of course). There is a large number of swimming pools, all of them paired with stunning views. All suites are unique and individually decorated, with views of the Atlas Mountains, the national park, and the Ourika Valley.

Villa Taj Marrakech
Villa Taj Marrakech allows you to create an intimate event if you are getting married in Morocco, assisting you with all necessary coordination and organisation.
You can have a non-denominative ceremony beneath the olive trees, a wine reception on the upper terrace, a catered dinner, a dance floor with an international DJ, high quality entertainment, and decoration that perfectly offset the colours of the Moroccan sky. This venue is designed by architect and designer Christophe Pillet and offers spectacular views of the Arab world's largest medina, encompassing twelve centuries of the city's history in one fell swoop.
Around plant-covered atriums, is a complex of 50 spacious rooms, 2 restaurants, a rooftop with a bar opening onto the panoramic terrace, and an exclusive Givenchy spa with a traditional hammam and a gym equipment.
Zellige pools, carved plaster and local stone cladding, Fassi ceramics, and copper lanterns provide subtle touches throughout the space, as well as bespoke furniture, thus enhancing on the natural decor of the venue.
Places to Elope in Morocco
Eloping in Morocco is one of the most reassuring countries weather wise. With minimal rainfall throughout the majority of the year, you are guaranteed spectacular views, and beautiful pink skies throughout your private vows. There are so many ideal spots for you to say ‘I do’ – getting married in Morocco means you are spoilt for choices in variety of landscapes. Here are a few locations we know you will absolutely love:
Valley of Jebel Toubkal
There is no better backdrop for your vows than the highest mountain in North Africa, which is Jebel Toubkal – ideal for those of you who are up for a big hike and love the adventure side of elopements.
You can walk straight to the summit or extend your adventure over several days to explore more of the mountain range before reaching the summit. The trails are quite steep, but the views are well worth it. If steep dangerous climbs are not your thing - rest assured, there are plenty of sightseeing spots in the valley where you can still adore the mountain view without the strenous hikes.
Cascades d’Ouzoud
Cascades d'Ouzoud offers several waterfalls which makes for a stunning elopement location. This place is not far from Marrakesh, and you can walk the paths that lead to the falls while exploring local cafes and souvenir stands. Don’t get us wrong - the location gets busy during peak months, however if you are up for an early start, you could meet the sun in the early as the rainbow peaks over the falls, in private, with barely any bystander. In addition, you can hire a raft giving you more privacy during that special moment.
Iriqui National Park
Iriqui National Park is Morocco's largest national park, preserving a unique landscape of savanna, sand dunes, salt flats, and Lake Iriqui's wetlands.
This area is ideal for an elopement that’s off-the beaten track and gives you a truly immersive Moroccan experience. We have been extremely lucky to witness tornado-like coulds forming in the pink sky, and trust us when we say - You will not get a more unique elopement anywhere else in the world.
Getting Around Morocco
One thing to know about Morocco, is that public transport is.. well.. barely existent outside of cities. When we travelled the country in 2023, we found it the easiest to hire a car (It cost us approx. €30/day) and just embrace the Moroccan way of driving (what lanes? What speed limit?). With the freedom of your own vehicle you are more likely to experience the true sights of Morocco. However, should you not drive, we found Taxis to be reasonably priced too, and usually only a short WhatsApp message away. Shout out to Abdul who kindly drove us all around with the craziest requests!
Getting to Morocco
Morocco has seven major airports, so you will have no trouble finding a flight to your desired destination. Although Mohammed V International Airport near Casablanca is the largest, the Menara Airport in Marrakesh is often the most popular due to its convenient location to the remained of the country. When we travelled to Marrakesh, we found that passport control queues can be quite long, but the stunning architecture inside kept our eyes busy, and the time flew by (hehe.. get it?).
If you're coming from Europe, you can also take a ferry to Morocco – they depart from Spain, Italy, and France - Spain has more more options, as it’s the closest.
